Recipe: Mashed Potatoes with Turnips:

11/22/2010

Everyone knows Thanksgiving dinner is all about the turkey, but what people often forget is that a good kosher turkey can become a GREAT turkey if coupled with a delicious side dish.

We, here at AviGlatt.com, fortunately, know that and have chosen one of our best Thanksgiving side-dishes to share with our readers.

So get the oven mittens out, OK - not yet, and let's get those taste buds salivating.

2 lg. turnips, peeled and cut into chunks
4 lg. potatoes, peeled and quartered
1/2 c. finely chopped onion
2 tbsp. of margarine
3/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. white pepper

Cook turnips, covered, in small amount of boiling salted water for 10 minutes; add potatoes and onion; and cook until vegetables are tender, 15 or 20 minutes. Drain well. Mash vegetables with butter, salt, and pepper. Serve hot.

Makes 4 1/2 cups.

As always, all of these ingredients are easy to purchase (and get in time for the Thanksgiving feast) in our Kosher food supermarket! Just click on the ingredient you want and click "Add To Cart". Happy Eatings!
